Smile Design
What is Smile Design?
Smile design is the process of arranging and enhancing the appearance of teeth and gums to match an individual's facial features and aesthetic expectations, especially when the current appearance is not sufficiently aesthetic. This process is customized by dentists for each individual and typically includes cosmetic dentistry applications.
When is Smile Design Performed?
Smile design can be performed in the following situations:
- When there is crowding of the teeth
- When there are fractures or cracks in the teeth
- When there are wear and tear on the teeth
- When there is discoloration of the teeth
- When there are gaps between the teeth
- When excessive gum visibility is present while smiling
How is Smile Design Done?
The smile design process can include the following procedures:
Whitening: Lightening the color of the teeth using mild acidic chemicals to achieve a whiter appearance.
Bonding: Applying composite resin to correct minor imperfections on the tooth surface.
Porcelain Veneers: Bonding thin porcelain shells to the front surfaces of the teeth.
Zirconium Crowns: Covering the teeth with zirconium material to achieve a more aesthetic appearance.
Orthodontic Treatment: Using braces or clear aligners to properly align the teeth.
Gum Contouring: Reshaping or reconstructing the gums for a better appearance.
Implants: Placing titanium artificial roots and prosthetic teeth to replace missing teeth.
First, a detailed examination of the mouth is conducted. Necessary treatments such as fillings, tartar removal, and root canal therapy are completed. Considering the individual's requests for smile design, intraoral and extraoral photographs and dental impressions are taken. After making the necessary adjustments on the model, porcelain, zirconium, or glass-ceramic teeth are produced and applied to the patient. The primary goal is to achieve a result that is both aesthetically pleasing and natural-looking.
